Check out these highlights from UB history:
- In 1913, University of Bridgeport unveiled the first dental hygiene school in the world — the Fones School of Dental Hygiene.
- In 1991, UB’s School of Chiropractic was established as the first university-based chiropractic school in the nation.
- In 2021, University of Bridgeport joined forces with Goodwin University — creating a first-of-its-kind higher education partnership to support student success at both institutions.
UB has also celebrated many firsts, including:
- Launching the STEM on Wheels bus — the first STEM bus in Connecticut
- Forming the first ABET-accredited Computer Engineering program in the state
- Housing the first High-Tech Incubator in Fairfield County
- Creating the state’s first Artificial Intelligence master’s degree program
Our community is home to record-breaking achievements, with accomplishments such as:
- Maintaining a 100% three-year average pass rate for the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE) and winning the 2023 National and State PAI Academic Challenge Bowls
- Earning designation from the Carnegie Classification System for doctoral/professional STEM programs
- Winning the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer National Championship (2018)
- Winning 6 women’s USA Gymnastics Championships in 11 years
